In general, the megaphone operator distributes good Internet, but now the Tele2 operator has made convenient tariffs and I use their Internet. What to do now, buy a Tele2 device or find a way to unlock a megaphone 4g modem? Of course, the second option.
If you insert a SIM card of another operator into a megaphone USB device, then you will be given the opportunity to enter an unlock code and unlock this modem to work with any SIM cards. You have ten attempts to enter the code. But where can I get this code?
Do not try to guess it, because after the tenth attempt the modem will be blocked. I found several options on the Internet to get an unlock code, they are all too complicated, using some programs, both paid and free.
It turns out that all the USB devices that we have are made in China by Huawei, so to unlock them, you need to use utilities for gadgets from this particular company.
And so, let's get down to unlocking the megaphone 4G modem. First you need to download this program to your computer Huawei Unlock Code Calculator.
Now run it and here you need to enter the IMEI of your modem. You will find it on the inside of the lid. Remove the cover from the USB device and you will immediately see the IMEI.
Write this number and click on the "Calk" button. The program will give the code numbers V1, V2 and V201. Now insert the SIM card into the USB modem and connect to the computer. If you have not yet installed the Internet control program from the megaphone, then it will be installed automatically.
In the upper right corner, I have a field for entering the unlock code. First I entered code V1, but it turned out to be wrong. Then I entered code V2 and it turned out to be wrong too. But when I entered the code V201, the Internet Tele2 appeared through the USB device of the Megafon operator.

However, there may be a problem with low Internet speed. This can happen because the modem was configured to connect only in 2G (GSM) or 3G (HSDPA). Or in auto mode, it selects the type of connection with a stronger signal (and lower speed).Under Windows, this problem can be solved by changing the settings in the Megafon Internet program. But in Ubuntu this program cannot be installed.
There is a way out, you just need to send the necessary AT command to the modem. And you can do this through the minicom program, which is in the Ubuntu universe repository.
Step one
You need to make sure that the Megafon M100-1 is correctly recognized and connected to the system. In the terminal you need to run the command
ls /dev/ttyU*
The output of the command should give three devices: /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1 and /dev/ttyUSB2. To work with the modem, you will need the /dev/ttyUSB2 device - this is the modem's control port.
step two
You need to install minicom (it's not out of the box). Then run it with the command:
minicom -s
It's running in setup mode. In this mode, you need to specify the /dev/ttyUSB2 device in the serial port settings. Then save the settings as dfl and exit the settings mode.
Then, already in terminal mode, you can work with the modem. First of all, check the connection to the modem with the command
