When you first start you will be prompted to accept (I Accept) the terms of use agreement:

In this example, when starting WPS Office, an analogue of Microsoft Word, WPS Writer, was used. However, the changes you make will affect all components of WPS Office.

After starting, you will be given a warning like

but while this window can be closed and "deal" with it after switching to Russian.

To switch to Russian, click on the arrow in the right corner of the Writer button

and go to "Tools Switch Language". WPS Office will connect to its site and display a list of available languages. Find Russian and double-click on it.
As soon as the copy of the Russian localization is completed in the download window, WPS Office will inform you that the interface will switch after the application is restarted.

After the restart, the meaning of the earlier pop-up message became clear:
Now you have to install a Russian spelling dictionary. Download the archive.

The archive contains a directory with three files:

The WPS Office Russification guides on various sites contain instructions for adding Russian dictionaries through terminal commands. But it is probably more convenient and clearer to do this through the file manager. Execute in terminal

Sudo nemo - for the Cinnamon environment

Sudo caja - for the MATE environment

Sudo thunar - for XFCE environment

And put the ru_RU directory in /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/dicts

Launch WPS Writer and click on the arrow in the right corner of the button
Go to "Tools - Select Language" and set the default to Russian:

Surely you have noted that when you start WPS Writer, a not entirely clear process occurs, which is displayed by the Docer window:

LibreOffice interface seems dull? MS Word documents open crookedly? A product of Chinese developers is in a hurry to help - WPS Office (Kingsoft Office), a clone of MS Office with maximum compatibility with the latter.

The package includes a word processor WPS Writer, WPS Presentation presentation software and spreadsheet editor WPS Spreadsheets. WPS Office is developed for the following platforms: Linux, Windows, Android and iOS. There are both free and paid versions for Windows.

There is no official support for the Russian language in WPS Office for PC yet, the translation of the version for Linux is carried out by the efforts of the community (http://wps-community.org). Versions for mobile platforms have been translated into many languages, including Russian.

WPS Office supports formats MS Office 2007/2010/2013, but with Open Document Format, unfortunately, not friendly. There is a built-in export documents in PDF and several interface options - both classic and identical to MS Office 2013.

Installation and setup

Attached are detailed installation and configuration instructions. WPS Office For example Linux Mint 17 Qiana(based on ubuntu).

1. Download the WPS Office distribution from the community site and install it.

2. Install ttf fonts:

sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

3. Most likely, these fonts will not be enough for work. WPS Office itself swears at startup for missing fonts:

You can download the missing fonts here (http://allshrift.ru) or here (http://www.fontpalace.com).

4. Add additional fonts here:

/usr/share/fonts/microsoft-non-dpkg

5. Update the cache fontconfig:

sudo fc-cache -fv

6. Run WPS Writer, select language ( Writer -> Tools -> Switch Language). Or press the quick button on the panel on the right.

We are waiting for the translations to load.

7. Now it would be nice to enable Russian spelling. Download the Russian dictionary from here (http://wps-community.org/download/dicts/ru_RU.zip). The contents of the archive are placed in /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/dicts. In Writer, go to the tab Review, Spell Check -> Set Language. Choose the one you need:

8. Here we could be glad, but when we start Writer persistently offers us a bunch of wonderful online templates:

It looks especially enchanting with a poor connection:

To disable annoying templates, you either need to open an empty document template once, which is here: /home/%username%/.kingsoft/office6/templates/wps, or change the settings in the file /home/%username%/.config/Kingsoft/Office.conf:

common\wpshomeoptions\StartWithHome=0 common\wpshomeoptions\StartWithBlank=1

Now, on startup, an empty document opens:

You can switch the interface from the menu "Service" or by the icon in the upper right corner:

Conclusion

In general, this office WPS Office makes a good impression, even fairly complex MS Office documents open correctly.

And this is what the version looks like Android:

A distinctive feature of WPS Office, compared to other office suites running under Linux, is very good compatibility with Microsoft Office documents (at least, as stated by the developer). Therefore, if you have had experience with complex Microsoft documents, please write in the comments.

The WPS Office interface is almost identical to the Microsoft Office interface. There are several themes: light and dark themes in the style of Microsoft Office 2010 ("ribbon interface"), as well as a classic theme that is similar to Microsoft Office 2003 (simple horizontal panels with icons).

WPS Office is cross-platform. There are versions for Windows, MacOS, Linux, as well as for mobile OS - iOS and Android. The program is compatible and tested in most popular Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, OpenSUSE and others).

How to Russify the interface and change the theme

By default, WPS Office applications start in English. You can change the interface language to Russian using the standard program tools. You can also change the interface theme. How to do this is shown in this video:

More recently, I came across information about the office suite of Chinese developers - WPS Office. Earlier this package was called Kingsoft Office. After installation, I saw a clone of a "soft" product. Chinese programmers did a great job.

Knowledgeable users on the forums, in the social. networks and blogs write that compatibility with ms office 2010 and other versions is just great. It is enough just to install the necessary fonts and the result will be excellent. There is support for PPT, DOC, DOCX, XLS XLSX formats, and it can also save documents in PDF format.

From the information on the WPS Office website:

“Compatible with Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Mint, Knoppix and more
Supports 32-bit and 64-bit systems
Full compatibility with Microsoft Office
Spell checker in 10 languages
Supported by our open source community"

Includes Writer text editor, Spreadsheets spreadsheet editor and presentation creation in Presentation.

To add a Russian dictionary for spell checking, you need to download the archive:

For the Ukrainian language, download the archive:

In the file manager that opens, copy the ru_RU or uk_UA directory to the folder indicated above. Now let's go to Main menu - Tools - Set language . Choose Russian Federation or Ukrainian - Set as default. Allow me to bow out on this.
